The Data Scientist apprenticeship will be placed within the Site Operations team which sits in Biopharmaceuticals R&D COO. Our purpose is to make great science possible through:

The Site Operations team is multifunctional, compromising of Customer and Site Services, Estate Development & Capital Programmes, Scientific Services, Safety, Health & Environment and Business Development. As a Data Scientist apprentice, you will be part of the Business Development Team where you will play a key role in organising, studying and drawing insights and recommendations from our data. The Business Development team works collaboratively with all functions across Site Operations, acting as a facilitator and leader in innovation and continuous improvement. Within Business Development our data analysis & governance competencies include service performance, space & asset utilisation and development of a data domain.
Data Science is a broad and fast-moving field spanning maths and statistics, software engineering and communications. Data Scientists have an impact at a strategic and operational level by building and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with key collaborators, subject matter experts and colleagues at all levels of organisation. They engage with the wider Data Science community to share ideas, techniques and experiences.
You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to solve complex data problems enabling Site Operations to transform data into useful insights. You'll collaborate with business collaborators to co-create data and analytics enabled solutions that help our teams fulfil our purpose: to push the boundaries of science to deliver life ‑changing medicines.
Example activities:
Identify and clarify problems an organisation faces and reformulate them into Data Science problems.
Devise solutions and make decisions in context by seeking feedback from collaborators.
Working on a variety of data analysis competencies on a tailored development programme
Working across a variety of projects, providing technical data solutions to a range of issues
Learning about and using a range of data analytics tools to explore and model data from different IT systems, collecting managing, cleansing, abstracting and aggregating data
Conducting a range of analytical studies on that data
Developing a good understanding of data structures and database systems
Learn effective techniques for data visualisation & storytelling
Training and Development
AstraZeneca will sponsor you through your Data Scientist (integrated degree) apprenticeship at Northeastern University.
The apprenticeship combines working, earning a full-time salary, with fully funded part-time university learning (on average 1 day/week). This will give you the opportunity to gain a BSc (Hons) Data Science qualification, just as you would if you went to university full-time, with the advantage of gaining relevant work-life skills and the excitement of helping to develop new medicines whilst taking your first steps towards a rewarding career.

Entry Requirements
5 GCSEs (or equivalent) grades 9 to 4 including English, Maths and IT
To have achieved or predicted to achieve a minimum of 3 A levels BBB, Maths desirable but not essential

This is a 39 month fixed term contract opportunity based in Cambridge with a starting base salary of £21,500 + 11% benefits fund + bonus.
At AstraZeneca, we aim to set you up for success and we recognise the challenges that starting a new job can bring. We therefore offer a relocation package to help with the costs and process of moving for candidates who currently live more than 60 minutes from the site location for this Apprenticeship.
