Job Description :

Data Scientist
Location: UK Flexible – Hybrid working (Home or office based)
Contract type: 12 months Fixed Term Contract
Hours: Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm
Salary: £40,000 per annum (plus London Weighting if applicable)

As a Data Scientist, you’ll work with colleagues in the Insight and Improvement department to embed data science as a key component of our evidence-based approach to service design, development, and delivery of our UK based services.

A key part of your role will be harnessing the power of complex datasets to understand opportunities and challenges for our UK services; you’ll analyse data to identify service user’s needs and vulnerabilities, demand for support, as well as the organisation’s capacity to respond. You’ll use your advanced analytical skills to present data into a language or formats that cam be understood by a diverse range of stakeholders, including those who may not be data savvy, and that are insightful and actionable.

One of the primary focuses of this role will be designing and developing forecasts and other anticipatory analyses of potential need for humanitarian support in the UK. Knowledge of forecasting methods such as time series analysis would be an advantage, but we would encourage applications from people who might lack this skillset but are keen to develop it.

You'll also seek out new and innovative data science techniques that could add value to our insights, such as sentiment analysis of social media, and will measure and champion their impact.

Behind every great cause, there’s a great team that makes everything possible.

The role of Data Scientist sits within the Insight and Improvement department; a single ‘go’ to’ place for evidence and insight and support to develop and evaluate services in UK Operations. Insight and Improvement are responsible for supporting the collection of high-quality data about the UK services we deliver and their impact for service users, using this data to provide insight and evidence to drive service improvement.

In this role you will be required to attend occasional events at our London Head offer and other UK sites.

  • Intermediate to advanced skills in a common data science programming language (ideally R, but Python also acceptable)
  • Advanced data visualisation skills, including geographical mapping
  • Intermediate to advanced statistical analysis skills
  • Intermediate GIS skills
  • Experience of full data pipeline – from cleaning and wrangling to visualisation and modelling
  • The ability to work to work independently and prioritise a varied workload

The closing date for applications is 23:59 on Tuesday the 7th of February 2023 with interviews to follow.

Please note that early application is encouraged, as we’ll be reviewing applications throughout the advertising period and reserve the right to close the advert in advance of the advertised closing date.
