Siemens Rail Automation is currently embarking on a journey of digitalising many of its process and tools to transform the business into a leaner more effective company, this will not only provide benefits to the taxpayer (through reduced project costs) but also make Siemens more competitive in an already competitive marketplace.

This internship will be based in the York office (Saxby House) where at any time we are working on several multi-million-pound re-signalling contracts for Network Rail. Your role will be vital in helping analysis inefficiency in existing tools and process, you will then propose digital solutions that offer a significant benefit to the project teams. Previous internships have proved very success and the Digital tools they have made are making a really difference to the project and the engineers working on them.

Here is what you will be getting involved in;
  • Engage with engineers to understand the biggest issues they face
  • Devise and propose digital solutions to Senior Management for approval
  • Teach yourself the relevant programming language needed to produce the tools (support will be provided but it is expected that you will mostly teach yourself)
  • Produce a project programme and remit document
  • Carryout beta testing with engineers to iron out bugs and make the tool fit for purpose.
  • Present the completed tool to senior management for sign off and publication

  • You enjoy collaborating with others to find innovative solutions
