Job overview
This is an exciting and key position in which the post holder will be required to work with a range of internal and external stakeholders. You will be required to establish positive working relationships quickly at all levels of the organisation and manage a busy workload, responding to conflicting priorities as required.
As a member of the senior leadership team for communications, you will report to the Deputy Director of Communications will lead on communications to support delivery of major capital programmes within the Trust. In particular these include the Tomorrow’s NUH Programme and the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) which are both schemes within the national New Hospital Programme (NHP). In additional to these you will also lead communications for other significant short-medium term reconfiguration schemes that support the Trust’s longer-term strategic direction. These include the Maternity and Neonatal Redesign Programme, Elective Surgery Projects and other service moves between our Hospital sites and in some instances off them altogether.
Main duties of the job
You will provide expert strategic communications and engagement advice to both programme boards and project teams (including reactive media advice), as well as practical and tactical support on a day-to-day basis. You will work closely with the respective PMOs and lead the communications for the programme(s) and project(s) to ensure operational delivery of internal, external and communications priorities in line with the agreed strategy.
You will be responsible for a small team within the communications directorate, managing workflow, determining priorities and ensuring their continual professional development.
You will also be expected to work closely with the Commissioners, who have overall responsibility for consulting on service change. This will be done through development, planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluation of operational activity, ensuring excellent communication channels at all levels of the organisation and beyond are built and ensuring work is completed within deadlines.
You will be the first point of contact for any questions about major capital programmes from internal, external (including media) and digital communication channels. You will also be responsible for liaising with the national New Hospital Programme communications team and with the Department for Health and Social Care Press office, to assure external communications are appropriately aligned with national policy and messaging.
Working for our organisation
We support flexible working and will agree a way of working that supports you and NUH. You will be based at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham and will work across all Trust and external sites as needed. You will be part of the out-of-hours on-call rota for the communications team, for which there is an additional payment.

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
