Job Title: Head of Communications

Salary: £69,161 to £79,882 plus a Location allowance of £1,721.

Location: External - 10 Victoria Street, London, with flexibility to work remotely.

Contract – Maternity Cover for up to 12 months

Allowances: A location allowance will be awarded to Met/external applicants and secondees already in receipt of this allowance. Secondees from other forces, outside of the London area will not be entitled to this allowance but instead can claim any travel expenses incurred.


THE NATIONAL POLICE CHIEFS’ COUNCIL (NPCC)

NPCC COMMUNICATIONS TEAM
The NPCC Communications Team plays a crucial role in communicating the collective views and action of UK police chiefs to the public, government, and stakeholders, building and maintaining confidence in policing at the national level and supporting effective engagement with stakeholders.

THE ROLE

We are seeking a dynamic communications leader to lead the NPCC communications team for 12 months.

This is a high profile, challenging communications leadership role supporting the UK’s most senior police officers to achieve their strategic objectives and drive progress for the public.

Working at the centre of policing on the biggest issues for the service, it offers the opportunity to make a real difference.

The Head of Communications will have responsibility for delivering a communication strategy aligned to organisational objectives that consistently delivers strategic impact. They will act as the principal communications advisor to the UK’s most senior police leaders, leading and developing a high-performing communications team, building the communications profession within NPCC, encouraging innovation and best practice.

The successful candidate would need to have the following experiences and skills:

  • Excellent strategic judgement to make decisions about complex, high-profile and sensitive corporate issues and advise senior leaders.
  • Extensive experience and proven results leading a multi-disciplinary communication team to deliver large-scale, complex and sensitive communications strategies and programmes fully aligned to business objectives.
  • Be an engaging, inspiring leader able to get results and build capability, capacity and an inclusive culture.


APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • We deliver, support and inspire, Level 3 - Provide evidence of achieving proven results leading a high-performing, multi-disciplinary communication team to deliver large-scale, complex and sensitive communications strategies and programmes fully aligned to business objectives.
  • We are collaborative, Level 3 - Provide evidence of developing effective engagement strategies and forging collaborative productive relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including media, to achieve strategic objectives.
  • We analyse critically, Level 3 - Provide evidence of decision-making on complex, high-profile and sensitive corporate issues and advising senior leaders.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Occasional national travel may be required. Travel expenses will be paid if location allowance is not being received, or when travel falls outside of the home to work journey. NPCC will pay for overnight accommodation if required.
