Our client an International Commodities house is seeking for a Junior Data Scientist to join their team on a permanent basis. Working primarily with machine learning modelling to predict global and local crop production. There are other projects involving market research, dashboard development and the use of machine learning in sustainability to measure deforestation.
Skills & Experience
It is essential for all candidates to have a degree within Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Biology or Statistics
Required Skills:
· Qualification in a technical/analytics field such as Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Biology or Statistics
· Ideally 1 year’s work experience within this field.
· Strong attention to detail
· A good working knowledge and experience using Python or/and R.
· Highly organised and able to set up effective database monitoring processes.
· Highly creative and resourceful
· Ability to create engaging and effective interactive outputs following corporate standards.
· Strong communication skills, oral and written.
· Genuine interest in agriculture, sustainability, or trading
· Eager to learn new techniques.
· Desirable:
· Good data extraction techniques (API/Web)
· Experience creating dashboards (ideally in Shiny, Python or PowerBi)
· Experience using version control (eg GitHub)
· A working knowledge of GIS and experience working with geospatial data, using the QGIS or AcrGIS would be beneficial.
· Sound experience in managing large datasets and data curation processes (Azure and MySQL)
· An interest in remote sensing and the application to spatial / agricultural modelling
