Role Purpose

The Junior Test Engineer provides testing, to ensure the quality of AFI applications used by the Animal Friends teams. The focus of this position is to work closely with the business analysis and development teams, to ensure that the functionality of applications and changes are understood and that there is adequate test coverage (quality checking) of applications, processes and services, prior to their live/production release. Manual testing is necessary, for new functionality or areas with rapidly changing designs. Where possible, scripts should be automated, to reduce the manual overhead, increase the test frequency & coverage, and improve the quality of systems. Provide testing on behalf of the business and technical teams/developers, to deliver new products, including Animal Friend’s websites and portals, used by both customers and vets. The position provides exposure to a broad range of related projects.


Responsibilities

  • Participate in requirements gathering and planning sessions in order to determine required test cases
  • Ability to read and analyse application & design requirements (User Stories) with good attention to detail
  • Attending daily stand-up meetings and providing testing updates
  • Present and communicate test findings to business users
  • Review technical and business requirements and design robust & reusable test scenarios
  • Design and execute testing for complex features as required
  • Basic understanding of software testing approaches, levels and types
  • Effectively feedback results of the test suite execution to necessary stakeholders
  • Record and manage defects throughout their lifecycle
  • Support other QA workstreams with test execution during busy periods
  • Flexibility to be able to jump between different projects, tools and processes
  • Contribute to testing and technical documentation


Requirements

  • Limited QA Experience
  • Basic understanding of web, API database testing technologies and frameworks
  • Experience or understanding of Agile/Scrum/Kanban & behavioral-driven development (BDD)
  • Understanding of software testing concepts such as types, principles, test case techniques, etc
  • Knowledge of Agile development frameworks: SCRUM and Kanban.
  • Knowledge of testing tools for Web and APIs
  • Knowledge of cloud (preferably Azure) based applications
  • Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Problem-solving ability
  • Well organised, enthusiastic, and self-motivated
