Job Description :

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist with an interest in providing community based intensive rehabilitation to people in their own homes within the NELFT’s Intensive Rehabilitation Service (IRS). The IRS is a large multi-disciplinary consisting of occupational therapists, physiotherapists and nursing staff.

We are an ever-expanding community-based service with lots of new and exciting service developments happening right now. These include discharge to assess, in reaching and early supported discharges and we are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic band 6 to help guide these!

We provide a service from 8am – 8pm over 7 days. Our working days cover a two-shift pattern – an early shift (8.30am – 16.30) and a late shift (12noon – 8pm). All staff generally complete 2 late shifts per month. To provide cover for weekend shifts, OTs generally complete 1 day out of the weekend every 5 weeks. Shifts completed are flexible within the team.

Within IRS we offer regular supervisions, informal and formal, monthly OT CPD meetings both within IRS and an opportunity to attend trust wide CPD sessions. We have a comprehensive in-service training timetable and access to external relevant training opportunities.

The intensive rehabilitation service is a progressive, innovative and proactive team with a strong social media presence.

Leadership
1. To prioritise workload, delegate and to supervise more junior staff including support staff and students, to aid provision of high standards of patient care.
2. To work flexibly and assist in effective and efficient delivery of the service.
3. To undertake the collection of data for use in service audit and monitoring performance of the service.
4. To provide regular supervision (planned and to colleagues within the multi-disciplinary team.

COVID-19 Vaccination

We continue to encourage all staff to ensure that they have been double vaccinated and received their booster. We recognise that taking the vaccine provides the best defence against COVID 19 for our patients, our staff and their families.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process, new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,108 and a maximum payment of £5,177).

We are seeking motivated and dynamic Band 6 occupational therapists with experience in general physical rehabilitation to apply this exciting opportunity to work with NELFT’s Intensive Rehabilitation Service (IRS). The IRS is a large multidisciplinary community team offering an alternative to hospital bed-based rehabilitation supporting patients to recover at home in a less restrictive environment. The IRS work closely with the Inpatient rehabilitation services and acute partners to enable early facilitated discharges whilst supporting patients through an intensive rehabilitation programme. As part of the Band 6 Occupational therapy role you will be given the opportunity to be part of our in-reach programme to our local acute trusts to further support hospital discharges.

The role will require the successful candidate to work as part of the team based in the community setting but with interface with other Nelft services and external stakeholders to ensure service delivery is of a high quality and provided 365 days per year.

The post holder will utilise a range of skills and experience gained in clinical practice to perform a specialist, comprehensive assessments using clinical reasoning skills and assessment techniques to formulate a treatment plan based on clinical findings. Sound post graduate experience is essential as well as excellent communication skills, good knowledge of current OT best practice and the ability to work as an effective team member across multi-professional teams

Clinical Skills
1. To be legally, professionally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work.
2. To assess the occupational needs of a defined patient group and establish and evaluate appropriate treatment plans. This includes chronic, acute and palliative care within own competencies, recognising own limitations and seeking advice when necessary.
3. To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment for patients with multiple in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of effectiveness of treatment
4. To select and apply occupational therapy assessments for a designated caseload, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits, enabling patients in the areas of productivity, self and leisure.
5. To be able to initiate referrals to other health professional specialist services and agencies.
6. To provide patients and relatives with information and education thus ensuring they have meaningful choices that promote dignity, independence and quality of life.
7. To ensure practice is supported by research, evidence based practice, literature and peer review.
8. To ensure that up to date written and electronic records and activity data in accordance with professional and trust standards and provide specialist occupational therapy reports relevant to practice setting.
9. To exercise good time management, punctuality and consistent reliable attendance.
10. Assess patient’s understanding of occupational therapy treatment, gain informed consent and work within a legal framework with patients who are unable to consent to treatment.
