Flat Iron - Operations Manager

The main purpose of this role is to oversee all aspects of your area, ensuring that all customers have the best possible experience upon visiting the restaurant, that team morale is high, and that company standards and budgetary requirements are achieved.

What will you be doing:

Restaurant Operations & Customer Service


  • Manage and ensure your managers manage the shift to the highest standards – putting the customers first to ensure the best food, service and atmosphere possible
  • Ensure that your managers understand that all company procedures are adhered to with regards to: health & safety, hygiene, licensing
  • Ensure that your managers ensure that their restaurant is appropriately staffed at all times to meet customer requirements
  • Manage and oversee the food quality from the kitchen to ensure standards and customer expectations are met.
  • Ensure that your managers follow all security procedures within the area of cash handling, stock control and the premises
  • Respond to customer feedback – via email, phone and face to face
  • Support your mangers to build a rapport with customers to obtain feedback on the restaurant and team’s performance
  • Complete monthly operational audits on your restaurants and use the results to set targets to the teams.


Team Management



  • Lead, manage, develop and motivate your teams to achieve the highest possible standards
  • Minimise labour turnover by understanding and addressing concerns through effective communication
  • Sign off the recruitment of new team members where necessary following the correct procedures
  • Identify development needs of the team and address by providing the appropriate coaching and training
  • Carry our regular staff appraisals with regular follow up reviews
  • Coach your management teams ensuring effective delegation of responsibility
  • Recognise and praise good performance within the teams
  • Identify and manage poor performance quickly and efficiently
  • Communicate relevant company information to the teams through the appropriate channels – e.g. through monthly area meetings
  • Supervise team schedules, holidays, working hours, and oversee the management of payroll
  • Identify and develop any stars within your teams, forming a succession plan


Budgetary Controls and Administration


  • Maximise restaurant sales by ensuring high standards of customer service and product availability at all times
  • Optimise contribution through controlling all costs – labour, food, and other variable costs
  • Ensure all end of week paperwork in completed to standard

New Business Development


  • Build relationships with local businesses to improve sales
  • Work with the Directors and General Managers to produce marketing plans
  • Be aware of competition and how to better them every time!
