Your responsibilities will include:
Exploring -
-
Lead/deliver sprint cycle based exploration of specific themes/topics and un-themed out of cycle exploration through research, attendance at industry events, development of relationships and continuous learning and development to grow expertise in your own specialist field(s) and breadth of knowledge across a range of technologies and industry sectors

Recognise and understand complex future problems, demonstrate thought leadership to identify ideas, products and services to address those future problems and assess the potential of new ideas using a structured and rigorous approach
-
Generate business cases for valuable ideas, products and services which demonstrate understanding of the market, market and non-market forces, potential customers, potential opportunity value, the route to commercialisation, scenario based financial modelling and make reasoned decisions and recommendations based on the output of that assessment

Communicate exploring and business case outputs to stakeholders in both verbal and written format
Building Networks -

Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders, customers, industry, academia and government
-
Develop trusted partnerships and collaborations in technology, product and market sectors of interest
-
Attend and present at seminars, industry events, etc.

Create thought leadership content for social media and the Futureworx website
Creating Solutions -
-
Lead/deliver the development of innovative products or services to solve complex future problems ensuring they meet the needs of the market in terms of performance, cost and quality
-
Identify, record and, with support from commercial, protect Intellectual Property
-
Perform project management activities including development, maintenance and management of schedule, risk management and change management throughout the development life cycle
-
Employ systems engineering principals and methodology throughout the development life cycle to effectively identify, capture and verify compliance with requirements
-
Perform trade studies based on research, experimentation and analysis to enable effective and agile decision making
-
Perform complex specialist and where required multi-domain/discipline analysis to substantiate products and services and make reasoned decisions based on the outputs of that analysis
-
Develop complex digital simulations and digital twins to understand, test and experiment in the virtual environment
-
Identify and work effectively with suppliers and subcontractors including the development of statements of work and other collaborative documents
-
Design and support manufacture of physical prototypes and minimum viable products for commercialisation
-
Perform testing to verify the prototypes and MVP product or service meets the performance and quality requirements of the market and potential customers
Building Ventures -

Support development and effective delivery of the business growth strategy
-
Develop effective and trusted relationships with commercialisation partners, customers and industry stakeholders
-
Support contract negotiations providing relevant input and insight
-
Support delivery of contractual obligations to ensure customer satisfaction
Continuous Learning and Development -

Create and maintain a personal learning and development plan which enhances strengths and subject matter expertise and seeks to broaden skills and experience
-
Maintain subject matter expertise through ongoing research, application of skills, mentoring of other team members and participation in relevant specialist groups

Degree level or equivalent

Professional qualification(s) in area of individual expertise, e.g. chartered status, highly desirable

Experience in an innovation, development or start-up environment highly desirable

Leadership of an innovation or development team highly desirable

Scientific, technical, engineering and mathematical excellence and experience in areas of individual expertise

Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills

Excellent analytical skills in combination with evidence based decision making

Manufacturing of mock ups and/or prototypes highly desirable

Test and evaluation of technology and products
