Position Over-view The Communities Projects central function is developing into a class leading central function that will supply and support exemplar performance for the end-2-end projects process across the Communities portfolio of contracts.

The Projects workstream is significant, with over £120m of opportunities within the next financial year, much of which is the key asset support workstream of lifecycle works.


The role of Senior Project Manager is a Projects central function role that reports into the Director of Projects.


The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for the development and delivery of projects in the most cost-effective manner, demonstrating ‘value for money' to the clients, across Mitie's portfolio of clients with particular focus on contracts within the Local Government (also known as Campus and Critical) sector and the support of the success of the development and delivery of the projects pipeline within it.

The successful candidate will identify and procure the services of specialist designers and contractors as required to successfully deliver their allocated projects. It will be the Senior Project Manager's responsibility to manage compliance with Mitie and client agreed project delivery methodology, governance, and gateway approvals. The Senior Project Manager will also take ownership of Health and Safety on Projects, so that projects are effectively managed through consultation and liaison with the Principal Designer and execution of Principal Contractor duties. They will be responsible for monitoring and controlling all change during a Projects life cycle, in accordance with the relevant contract requirements.

The position will be mobile predominantly covering the South West area however please note that there will be, on occasions, travel to sites across the UK.


Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring projects are delivered in compliance with the applicable contract and corporate governance arrangements.
  • Management of multiple projects across a diverse property portfolio.
  • Quality assurance and overall integrity of projects.
  • Managing the project budgets across multiple locations through liaison with the Commercial Teams.
  • Facilitating the appointment of Design Teams & Contractors to the projects.
  • Managing the delivery of each project to the agreed level of quality, programme and budget.
  • Respective P&L for allocated projects.
  • Managing third party contributions to the project.
  • Managing the communications with all stakeholders (internal & external).
  • Managing risks to the project's successful outcome.
  • Reporting progress of projects at regular intervals.
  • Reviewing methods of working, processes, alternative materials etc in order to maximise commercial profitability.
  • Seeking and developing ongoing continuous improvement.
  • Providing aftercare services to the customer.
  • Developing and managing positive relationships with clients and stakeholders.

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • The successful candidate will have a proven track record of project development and delivery with a demonstrable experience of pre-construction and construction phases and delivery of multiple projects.
  • Understanding and experience of the local government, health, education and campus and critical sectors and developing project delivery strategies in these environments
  • Experience of, and background in, the FM sector
  • Experience of supporting the development of Projects, FM, asset and support service strategies
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team and under their own steam

Skills and Personal Qualities:

  • Fully conversant with all applicable legislation, regulations, and standards.
  • Able to produce estimates of project programmes and cost targets which are reviewed and revised as necessary throughout the project life cycle, possibly in liaison with other functional areas and expertise.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and implementation of the JCT and NEC suite of contracts (Professional Services and Construction).
  • Have the ability to establish vision and direction, to influence and align others towards a common purpose and to empower and inspire people to achieve project success.
  • Have the ability to plan projects using at least 1 industry standard programming package.
  • Able to capture stakeholder briefs, analysing and testing the documented statement of stakeholders and user requirements.
  • Able to determine the overall duration of projects, when activities and events are planned to happen, including the identification of activities, interdependencies, estimation of activity durations. Review requirements and availability of resources. Identifying and assigning resources to activities so that the project is undertaken using appropriate levels of resources and within an acceptable duration.
  • Experience of developing and producing work activity schedules.
  • Have the ability to tailor and implement project processes to reflect client requirements.
  • Competent in the use of Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, and Maximo (desirable).
  • Likely to have a minimum of five years' experience of working within a construction related industry (essential).
  • Management experience of delivering multiple projects simultaneously (project values ranging from £10K to £2,000,000).
  • You must be able to deliver the above at pace, working within multiple deadlines & duties & also deliver works accurately.
  • You will be expected to work to your own initiative, whilst also working well as an integral team member.

Performance

  • Deliver as part of the projects team our budgeted Communities Projects numbers for revenue, profit and cash
  • Establish deep, strong relationships with your key clients and support and coach other projects representatives to do the same
  • Meet all required compliance standards, including technical, QSHE, and commercial compliance

Growth

  • Work with Director of Projects to support the organic and targeted growth within the BU.
  • Support delivery against agreed revenue targets from our ‘Mitie 1st' strategy – providing Projects, Energy and other Mitie products and services to current clients.

Support the Communities contribution to Mitie's sustainability (‘Plan Zero') and Social Value objectives
