Job Description :

To ensure the effective smooth running of the marker session clinics, to ensure the effective use of resources when booking in patients for treatment, and to ensure the appropriate action is taken regarding all enquiries received.

To receive radiotherapy booking forms from the consultants, clinical oncologists and secretaries, ensuring that all relevant sections are completed and additional information is included.

To schedule any additional appointments the patient may require for treatment, e.g., the mould room, the simulator etc.

To action any cancellations immediately and re-book where necessary, also bringing foreword patients into cancelled slots (contacting them by telephone).

To deal with a large number of telephone enquiries from consultants, specialised health care professionals, secretaries, and patients, resulting in a large number of alterations to schedules.

To maintain effective communication links with treatment units, consultants, simulator, mould room and clinical radiographers to ensure that all relevant patient information is received to ensure an optimum treatment schedule.

To track all records handled and to use the PMS and CLINISIS computer systems.

To maintain and regularly update knowledge in key areas such as basic life support, fire training, etc.

  • Healthcare Support Workers make a valuable and important contribution to the delivery of high quality healthcare. The national Code of Conduct for NHS Wales describes the standards of conduct, behaviour and attitude required of all Healthcare Support Workers employed within NHS Wales. Health Care Support Workers are responsible, and have a duty of care, to ensure their conduct does not fall below the standards detailed in the Code and that no act or omission on their part harms the safety and wellbeing of service users and the public, whilst in their care.

CLINICAL DUTIES
To prepare and manage marker session clinics for two consultants; managing the patient workload to include gathering all relevant information, e.g., CT results, X-rays and hospital notes, etc, from various departments.

To ensure all paperwork is completed and that any treatment regimes discussed with the consultant is appropriated, i.e., beds booked for chemotherapy, blood test forms, GFR booked, etc.
PLANNING RESPONSIBILITIES
To ensure that patients paperwork in the planning queue are correctly placed, and that start dates and verification is re-booked and the relevant clinic radiographer is informed, when delays occur.

To track breast patients on chemotherapy; to liase with trial nurse specialists as to any changes in finish dates ensuring that radiotherapy is booked within four weeks of their last cycle.
COMMUNICATION
To be confident and courteous at all times on the telephone, e.g., when dealing with sensitive issues raised by patients.
