Applications are invited for a Research Assistant/Associate (Postdoctoral Researcher) in the Department of Engineering, to work on the development of new conductive additives for Li-Ion battery electrodes as part of an IUK grant with two industrial partners. The post holder will be located at the University of Cambridge in the group of Prof. Michael De Volder (www.nanomanufacturing.eng.cam.ac.uk/) and will work closely with the group of Prof. Adam Boies (https://cambridgenanoaerosol.com/).
The successful applicant will focus on the development of advanced methods to integrate advanced, structured additives into Li-Ion battery electrodes that allow for better electron transport. This research is undertaken to improve the rate performance or high areal loading of batteries. Key responsibilities of the candidate include the development of novel methods to disperse the conductive additives, structure and cast the battery electrodes and measure the electrochemical properties. This project is in partnership with companies and therefore compatibility with industrial manufacturing processes is essential.
We will consider candidates with various research backgrounds including engineering, chemistry, physics and material science. Applicants are required to have a PhD or be close to obtaining a PhD and have relevant experience in some of the following areas: battery electrode optimisation, electrode structuring, battery fabrication as well as electrochemistry and/or operando methods for Li-Ion battery testing.
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £27,929 - £32,348 Research Associate: £34,308 - £42,155
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 9 months in the first instance.
