The Service

Portsmouth City Council's Employment, Learning and Skills delivers a wide range of DWP, ESFA and ESF funded programmes. The programmes we work on provide support to residents of Portsmouth and neighbouring areas many of whom are either long term
unemployed, have a disability or health condition such as experiencing mental health issues or have other barriers as to why gaining sustained employment is proving to be a challenge. Services included targets interventions for young people and other excluded or vulnerable groups to provide Portsmouth and surrounding areas with an inclusive workforce.

The Restart scheme gives individuals who have been out of work for at least 12 months enhanced support to find jobs in their local area. The programme is designed to break down any employability barriers that could be holding them back from finding work. Restart
referrals will be made over a 3-year period and provides up to 12 months of tailored support for each participant. By working with employers, local government, and other partners we will deliver tailored support for individuals into gaining sustainable employment.


Your New Role

The Administration Team are responsible for a wide range of tasks often with competing priorities. You will respond to first line enquiries from customers or colleagues, managing the arrival of participants on site and sign posting effectively to the relevant activity and colleague. You will also maintain the office job vacancies board and work closely with the branch employment services team, to ensure the board is renewed and kept current over the course of the working week, as well as collating “good news” stories working closely with Employment Advisors, Employer Consultants, and participants, liaise with marketing and social media teams to ensure these are shared internally and externally with relevant third-party organisations (e.g. Job Centres) As well as other ad hoc duties in line with the delivery programme requirements.



What you’ll need to succeed

You will be organised, trustworthy and reliable with good attention to detail. You will have good communication and interpersonal skills as you will be greeting visitors and liaising with staff at all levels (customer centric). you will have a clear understanding of confidentiality and Data protection. You will also have good IT skills and be familure with MS Office applications. You will also have good written and verbal communication skills as many of our enquiries are through written communication needing written responses and over the telephone.
