Job overview
The successful applicants will join our established band 5 rotations at NUH working with dynamic, forward thinking teams . We offer multiple rotations including Medicine and Surgery, Health Care of Older People, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Neurology and Spinals, Paediatrics, Surgical and Critical Care, Medicine and Cancer, Stroke, and Neuro rehab across two hospital sites in Nottingham.
This post would be suitable for those looking to work within a Trust with the support and supervision of an experienced and dynamic team of OTs. We invite applications from both OTs graduating in the summer and those with previous experience.
Our NUH Therapy department is committed to supporting your development, including a Preceptorship training and support programme, reflective Action Learning Sets with peers and ongoing CPD for all band 5s.
NUH supports seven day working to benefit patients and you will be required to work flexibly across seven days and across campuses within this post.
Main duties of the job
The post is that of a Band 5 Occupational Therapist on a 6 monthly rotational scheme.
As a Band 5 OT you will be required to work autonomously and hold a caseload of patients. Within all clinical areas we offer a variety of assessments and treatment interventions to our patients and take a lead on efficient and effective discharge planning. You will need to have an enthusiastic approach, be forward- thinking and have a problem-solving approach to patient management. You will also require good time management and prioritisation skills. You will also need to work effectively with MDT colleagues to provide an efficient and effective OT service to our patients, supporting NUH Trust’s objectives. You will be supervised and supported by a senior Occupational Therapist within the team.

Therapies and Rehabilitation Services is one of the pathways that together make up the Clinical Support Division at NUH. We are a diverse pathway of AHPs and support staff, employing over 600 staff who work together to deliver the high quality care we aspire to. Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists, and our other staff encompass professionals such as nurses, psychologists, administrative and clerical and support workers. We have a Chief AHP to lead us on our strategic direction, and many of the pathway leadership team have pathway AHP backgrounds to support our staff. There are also Practice Development Therapists to support career development for all.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To work in line with the occupational therapy service core purpose.
2. To comply with clinical minimum standards and criteria set within the occupational therapy service.
3. To work only within the area of competence agreed in liaison with the respective supervisor and to seek training, help and/or guidance on all other occasions.
4. To maintain and update personal knowledge, taking responsibility for evidencing continuing personal development (CPD) as required by the Health Care professions Council (HCPC).
5. All staff working under the title of "occupational therapist" must maintain registration as a member of the HCPC and subscribe to membership of the British Association of Occupational Therapists.
6. To demonstrate professional behaviour at all times in accordance with the College of Occupational Therapists Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct (2005) and the College of Occupational Therapists series "Professional Standards for Occupational Therapy Practice" (2003).
7. To comply with both legal requirements and the occupational therapy guidelines on documentation and confidentiality.
8. To comply with all Trust policies, procedures and guidelines.
9. To comply with all occupational therapy service procedures, guidelines and protocols.
10. To participate actively in the Personal Development Review (PDR) process, whether as an appraiser or an appraisee using the Trust’s PDR documentation.
11. Support the training of occupational therapy students on practice placement as agreed with the named practice placement educator for a named student.
12. To maintain appropriate statistical returns as required.
13. To maintain a high standard of housekeeping within the occupational therapy service, the main departments and satellite areas.
14. To undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required.
