Operations Manager
Job Description
Responsible to: Bursar
Line Manager to: Operations Administrator, Transport Administrator, School Bus Drivers, Pastoral and Health Support, Data Protection Coordinator
Hours of Work: Full time
8.00am – 5.30pm term time (35 weeks)
9.00am – 4.00pm outside term time
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 (dependent on experience)
Pension: Group Save Contributory Pension Scheme
Introduction
Lewes Old Grammar School is an independent co-educational day school located in the historic county town of Lewes, educating children from 3 to 18 years old. The School encompasses traditional values combined with a forward approach to the education of young people, and it is proud of the family ethos and community it engenders. First established in 1512, Lewes Old Grammar School combines high educational standards and small classes in a caring, well- mannered environment together with economic fee levels. There is an extensive program of extra-curricular activities running on Friday afternoons for Yr 7-9 and many opportunities for students to take part in music and drama activities.
Morley House caters for children from three years old until the age of ten, and is located in an independent building in a pleasant residential area of Lewes. The Senior School occupies four architecturally historic buildings in the High Street of the ancient town of
Lewes. Here we educate children from the age of 11, (Year 7), until 18 years of age, (Sixth Form), and always feature well in the Sussex GCSE and A Level league tables.
Purpose of Job
The Operations Manager sits in the Bursar’s management team, closely working with the Bursar, the Estates Manager, Catering Manager, HR Manager and IT Manager to deliver the strategic aims of the school.
Transport
With assistance from the Transport Administrator, the Operations Manager is responsible for the transport provision in the school, to include planning school transport routes, managing the delivery of school transport, managing the school bus drivers and the servicing of all school vehicles.
Educational Visits
With assistance from the Operations Administrator and the Health and Pastoral Support, the Operations Manager is responsible for all of the administration and compliance around school trips and visits, including ensuring all the relevant paperwork is completed before a trip takes place, overseeing consent and finance matters from parents where required and liaising with third parties.
Health and Safety
The Operations Manager will assist the Bursar and work closely with the Estate Manager in all pupil facing aspects of the Health and Safety management of the school, including the reviewing and implementation of all risk assessments and school policies relating to health and safety.
Health Centre
The Operations Manager will line manage the school’s Health Centre staff to ensure the School meets its requirements for accident recording and reporting and First Aid provision across both school sites.
Environmental Sustainability
In conjunction with the Bursar and Estate Manager, the Operations Manager will take the lead on developing and implementing the School’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy.
Events Administration
The Operations Manager will line manage the Operations Administrator to ensure that all relevant administration, paperwork and risk assessments are in place for all school events.
Visiting Speaker Administration
The Operations Manager will line manage the Operations Administrator to ensure that all relevant administration, paperwork and risk assessments are in place for all visiting speakers who come to the school.
Work Experience
The Operations Manager will line manage the Operations Administrator to assist with all aspects of work experience in the school, including working with the Work Experience Coordinator on information evenings, work experience placements and communication with parents as and when required.
Data Protection Supervisor
The Operations Manager will work with the Data Protection Coordinator, in liaison with the school’s external Data Protection Officer, to promote a culture that all data controllers at the school handle and process data in accordance with data protection legislation
