And, right now, we’re looking for six physically fit individuals with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work flexibly and deliver a quality service, to join our Estates & facilities Security Service team.
Your challenge will be to provide an effective, efficient, customer focussed and professional security service that provides a safe and secure environment for staff, students and visitors alike. We will also rely on you to proactively protect the university’s property and assets using a range of technology, including CCTV; ANPR cameras; BWV cameras; mobile readers; access control and fire systems. On any given day you might be carrying out security patrols, attending incident, providing a first aid service or, when required, deputising for the Supervisor, Controller, or CCTV Operator. In short, it’s a varied, interesting and vital role that involves working as part of a 24-hour/7 days a week alternative shift system which includes nights.
Experience of working in a FE or HE setting would be useful but is not essential. You must, however, have excellent communication skills, including the ability to diffuse difficult situations, produce written incident reports and familiar with radio communication protocols i.e., NATO phonetic alphabet. The ability to use IT systems within the department is important too, as is a willingness to undertake appropriate training, plus a commitment to/understanding of, equal opportunities issues in a diverse and multicultural environment.
