About the role:

You will be managing teams of diverse engineers and abilities across both Manchester and London, in the Trips Business unit.

We are looking for a superb and enthusiastic Senior Engineering Manager who will take the lead on engineering brilliant solutions and shaping our new future. We expect you to have the energy and passion to proactively lead multiple teams of engineers that use a range of technologies and have a solid understanding of modern engineering practices.

Your responsibilities:

• Lead, inspire and motivate Engineering teams at scale across product groups
• Line manage teams of Engineers and Engineering Managers
• Lead, influence and impact multiple senior customers across the business
• Handle delivery through third parties and outsourcing partners
• Delivery & Programme management across multiple engineering teams or groups
• New product development from concept to scale
• Lead by example by taking ownership, being proactive and collaborating
• Engineering delivery, quality and practices within your team
• Delivery of the Engineering strategic objectives
• Thought partner for Product to define and build a pipeline of features
• Get into the technical detail where required to coach, support and mentor the team
• Embed Agile ways of working and values within the organisation
• Engineering Craftsmanship including coaching and mentoring the team
• Developing engineering talent in the teams
• Fostering a great engineering culture who innovate, work as a team and celebrate success
• Implementation of the architecture across your Product Groups
• Adhere to the default principles for Architecture, quality and non-functional requirements
• Supply to the evolution of best practices across the department
• Write, review and take responsibility for clear, concise and comprehensive user documentation
• Learn new technologies and stay ahead of existing technologies and be able to apply these to a variety of projects as applicable
• Operate in DevOps environment including on call critical issues

Your skills and experience:

• Demonstrable experience in leading multiple teams ideally Java and/or Javascript
• Demonstrable experience of shaping and leading a cross functional Engineering function across multiple Products, areas of the business or function
• Demonstrable experience of working in an high regulated environment with compliance, legal and regulatory stakeholders
• Demonstrable experience of managing third parties and working with outsourced partners
• Demonstrable experience of leading Engineering Managers / Team Leads
• Demonstrable experience shaping the Products from conception through to delivery at scale
• Demonstrable experience of working in Agile environments and more importantly an Agile culture and ethos
• Servant leadership approach by default when leading teams including situational leadership and coaching
• Demonstrable experience of influencing and driving both the Engineering strategy
• Demonstrable experience of being a thought partner for Product and the Business
• Must understand technology and have a background in the digital online space
• Natural leader and communicator who is collaborative and builds great relationships
• Well versed in Engineering Craftsmanship and quality
• Proficient in the Delivery & Programme Management of Engineering teams
• Strong influencer of senior stakeholders and business strategy
• Be able to deputise for the Engineering Director
• Strong commercial competence

We want our colleagues to have a work life balance that works both for them and the business. Our core hours are 10-4 with flexibility around that within a 37.5 hour week. This role may be required to work on an on-call rotation.
