Job overview

An opportunity has arisen within the Primary Mental Health Team. The position is for a Band 6 practitioner to join a dynamic, forward thinking and supportive team.

The successful applicant would be a proficient and confident member of staff who has experience of working with Children and Young people and are competent and efficient in caseload management. The successful candidate would also welcome an opportunity to work within a team who can offer a supportive learning environment from which to enhance their skills.

Assessment and treatment of mild to moderate mental health conditions, assessment of Neurodevelopmental Disorders, supervision of junior colleagues and professional consultation

Main duties of the job

The Primary Mental Health Team forms part of the CAMHS service. PMH work with children aged 5-18 years who are experiencing struggles with their mental health, emotional wellbeing and those experiencing behavioural difficulties. PMH provide initial assessment and offer brief time limited interventions for mild to moderate mental health conditions such as low mood and anxiety. We work to support parents and professionals supporting children who present with challenging behaviours. PMH have a range of interventions to best meet the needs of the young person, candidates must be able to think creatively and exercise autonomy in order to engage the young person and or their family. Aspects of the PMH role is to hold an individual caseload from referral to discharge, conducting initial assessments and providing interventions that sit within the ‘getting help’ quadrant of the thrive model. PMH work across both quadrants of ‘getting advice and getting help’. Further aspects of the role; professional consultations, linking in with education settings to provide advice and support, community psychoeducation groups, proactively with other internal and external agencies, colleagues and services. To provide a specialist mental health service for children, adolescents and families who experience psychiatric, mental health disorder or emotional and behavioural difficulties.

  • Evidence of professional updating
