Job Description Summary
We have an opening for a great individual to join the Card Servicing Lab as Software Engineer to deliver the highest quality customer driven software whilst continually challenging, motivating, mentoring and supporting their engineering teams. They will work in cross-disciplinary teams delivering exciting customer driven solutions and high quality software and showcase excellent interpersonal and communication skill whilst efficiently working across the project life cycle to ensure software operates as intended. This is a leadership level role and will blend both deep domain and technical expertise within a feature team and great passion for coaching and developing people in a “player-coach” model.

About the role...
As a Senior Software Engineer in the Card Servicing lab, you’ll help deliver the highest quality customer driven software possible, while challenging, motivating and mentoring a newly formed software engineering team.
The role plays a vital role in ensuring the products we deliver are fit for purpose and meet the quality and standards that our customers expect. You'll help develop fresh ideas to enable us to optimize the way in which we work and achieve run cost reductions through automation and a DevOps approach.
This is a senior role where you will blend strong domain knowledge with technical backend or full-stack development expertise, demonstrating a passion for mentoring and developing our less experienced engineers, and being an advocate for improvement and engineering excellence within your discipline.
Here's where you'll make a difference:
  • Take a lead role in application design, development and delivery within a feature team
  • You'll ensure that software is built in a way which is consistent with - and exploits where possible - the collective frameworks, patterns and industry innovations that exist across the wider Engineering community
  • You'll mentor and develop other software engineers, providing clear and constructive feedback and creating opportunities for learning and growth
  • You'll establish and maintain effective working relationships with all areas, not only within Digital, but across the Group to help drive improvement to the overall delivery method
  • We're looking for you to have a committed focus on delivering business value through sound software engineering methods and principles
What we need from you:
  • Strong Software Engineering background and deep knowledge of agile development practices, TDD/BDD, automated builds, continuous integration, code quality metrics etc.
  • History in providing Software Engineering oversight, technical leadership and production of software designs
  • Accomplished within your discipline developing and deploying Spring Boot / Java microservices
  • Experience using performance monitoring and log management tools
  • Experience across the entire SDLC from inception, through build to production
  • Passion for coaching other software engineers and building a strong team culture
  • Awareness of the business domain with an understanding of the wider bank business
In addition, It would be great if you had experience in the following areas:
  • Working with distributed teams in a shared code environment
  • Knowledge or experience of containerisation – e.g. Docker, Helm, managed Kubernetes platforms, and cloud based services
  • Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Maintaining and supporting productionised apps
