At Cancer Research UK, we exist to beat cancer.
We are professionals with purpose, beating cancer every day. But we need to go much further and much faster. That’s why we’re looking for someone talented, someone determined, someone like you.
This is an exciting opportunity to support the growth of Cancer Research UK’s charity retail presence across the UK. You will work with the Store Acquisition & Development Team and external agents - attending site viewings and surveys, overseeing scoping of works, fitting out and contractor management through to store completion and handover to retail. You will keep field teams up to date on acquisitions and their progress throughout all stages of the pipeline to ensure new stores are acquired efficiently and successfully.
We are looking for someone who is experienced in retail acquisitions and property development, who has strong commercial knowledge of what attracts customers. You will have a proven track record of success in acquiring stores which add value and income to a charity or business.
What will I be doing?
  • Identifying potential locations for new store openings throughout the UK using data from both central sources and field knowledge/activity.
  • Completing desktop research on identified locations throughout the UK and produce the data and evidence to support each acquisition.
  • Completing scope of works in partnership with CRUK appointed contractors to ensure retail space is maximised and back-office space meets required standards.
  • Ensuring all store development activity complies with both CRUK health and safety policy and UK legislation.
  • Supporting the Programme Manager – Store Acquisition & Development to ensure that fit outs are carried out to the required standards and timescales via the acquisition critical path, whilst managing ongoing CAPEX and budget expenditure.
  • Timely handover of stores to field teams ready for merchandising within agreed deadlines as required.
  • Providing reporting and management information on each acquisition to key stakeholders and the wider Store Development team.
  • Ensuring that store acquisition critical paths and the tasks within it are completed to standard, on time and on budget in line with the overall project plan.
  • Keeping internal stakeholders and the Store Development team up to date and informed on acquisitions and their progress throughout all stages of the acquisition critical path.
  • Project managing and completion of field-based activities including viewings, scope of works, snagging & site inspections for the Acquisition Programme and as needed the Refit Programme.
  • Reviewing processes regularly and suggesting ways to reduce CAPEX and achieve better value across all of our store development programmes.
What skills are we looking for?
  • Knowledge of retail property or experience of working within a retail property environment
  • Excellent communication & influencing skills and can build strong working relationships with key stakeholders and contractors.
  • Strong planning, data analysis and reporting skills.
  • Good Microsoft Excel skills and experience in using Microsoft Office packages.
  • Proactive and ability to work on own initiative with a flair for problem solving.
  • Awareness of Health and Safety/Compliance legislation in a retail environment and an awareness of statutory regulations relating to shop fitting and building works in a retail environment.
  • The ability to proactively manage multiple projects simultaneously and experience of working to tight deadlines. Passion for driving continuous improvement across the acquisition programme and processes.
  • Highly customer focused
  • High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
