Job Description :

What’s the role about?

As part of our commitment to the John Lewis Partnership Purpose, we are investing in our Change Profession.

Creating and sustaining relationships with our Partners and Customers is at the heart of our success, and as a Technical Project Manager, you’ll have extensive experience in Project Management, have delivered IT/Technical based projects, and worked with a wide range of delivery techniques and teams to drive performance and create value. In addition, you’ll have proven experience matrix managing/leading 3rd parties for delivery, working with Vendor Management to improve delivery, and the ability to work with and ask the right questions of Technical SMEs and Architecture. An understanding of best practices and delivery stages for implementation and delivery of technical change into the technology and business teams is desirable.

You will be a leading Practitioner and advocate of Project Management and will bring deep knowledge and experience to the Partnership by designing, delivering and implementing technical and business change on large scale complex projects to meet identified business needs. You will do this by adopting appropriate project management methodologies in order to acquire and utilise the necessary resources and skills, within agreed parameters of cost, timescales, and quality.

Please note: We have a number of permanent roles available.

What will you be doing?

  • As a co-owner, actively share the responsibilities of ownership and support Partners and colleagues to have a voice in our business.

  • Set clear intent, direction and guardrails to achieve outcomes, aligned to the Partnership and business area strategy.

  • Adopt project management methodologies on large scale complex technical projects based on the context of the project and selecting appropriately from predictive (plan-driven) approaches or adaptive (iterative/agile) approaches.

  • Work with/lead 3rd parties vendors to deliver functionality to cost, quality and time.

  • Empower and support teams to make decisions and resolve challenges in line with the strategy for the business.

  • You may also be the people manager and / or assignment manager for a number of project team members including, in some cases, other Project Managers.

  • Undertake a combined Project and Change Management role, depending on the size and value of the change and/ or using your project management expertise to assure project management activity carried out by a non specialist.

What you'll have

  • Significant experience working as a Technical Project Manager with clear evidence of using at least one standard project management discipline (waterfall or agile) to deliver a large complex project

  • Recognised professional qualification in Project Management - Prince 2, Scrum Master or equivalent

  • Demonstrable track record of end to end delivery of complex technical projects, managing multiple work stream across technology, people and process

  • Evidence of senior stakeholder management in complex organisations

  • Experience of managing teams consisting of internal and external resources, including building and managing 3rd party supplier relationships.

Assessments

The assessment process will take place over two stages;

  • Stage 1 (w/c 6th March): Initial screening interviews.

  • Stage 2 (w/c 20th March): Assessment activity & full interview.

Interviews and assessments will be virtual.

Should these dates not be possible, please contact Lindsay Belt, the Resourcing Consultant: lindsay.belt@waitrose.co.uk.

Flexible Working

The Partnership supports agile and flexible working practices, such as when, where and how we work. We have several different ways to work flexibly, including part-time, flexible or compressed hours, and job sharing.

Whilst you will have an office base (at either Victoria in London or Bracknell) - we promote a blended approach to working location. In order to maximise the benefits of remote and team working, you will be able to work from either our offices or from a remote location (as long as it is within the UK). We'll expect flexibility and will on occasions require you to be in the office. But for this role, it would be reasonable to plan on the basis of a 60/40 remote/office split. In practice, we aim to maximise flexibility and these decisions will mostly be made locally within your team.

You'll have the opportunity to discuss this further with the hiring manager during your interview and, where it is operationally practicable, they'll do all they can to accommodate your needs.

Additional Information

We occasionally close vacancies early in the event that we receive a high volume of applications. Therefore we recommend you apply as soon as possible. The application form consists of a CV upload, followed by application questions.
