The role: You will deliver exclusive news about television to our loyal audience who rely on us for all the daily gossip. You will be working in a fast-paced and exciting environment at The Sun writing about the most-watched shows, the world's most famous actors, writers and directors, grilling stars and attending events where you'll rub shoulders with some of the most powerful people in the TV industry. As part of this hybrid role you will also contribute to the digital TV section where appropriate, be that live-blogging during a big TV launch or pitching web-friendly content.

Key accountabilities:

  • You will bring in great TV exclusives for print and online - our stories often set the agenda and we are easily the leading source of news for all TV, both digitally and in the paper.

  • Holding interviews and covering events.

  • Contributing exclusive stories on a daily basis.

  • Pitching content based on guidance from our audience team across SEO and Social media.

  • Recognising and acting upon any potential legal issues and acting in accordance with the PCC Code of Conduct.

  • Consult with the TV Editor and Digital TV Editor in order to resolve issues with stories and keeping line managers informed on changes that arise as stories develop.

  • Suggest new angles and feature ideas to news/features desks.

  • Maintain a wide knowledge of showbiz and current affairs and trends through reading various titles as well as utilising other media platforms on a daily basis.

  • Encourage collaboration and support others, actively engaging with people in other teams.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working as a showbiz or TV journalist or who is currently working on a celebrity /TV website and is brimming with new ideas, has a bulging contacts book and thrives working in an exciting, fast paced newsroom environment.

  • You must have a strong love of television and be interested in a variety of shows.

  • We expect you to be able to write a pithy TV column story to the same standard as a funny gem of a tale elsewhere in the paper, or even a two-page TV feature.

  • A digital skillset with an eye for pulling out TV stories while covering live shows.

  • Sourcing TV content from social media - be it the stars’ social media profiles, fan forums or viral TikTok content.

  • Unflappable under pressure and delivers work at a consistently high standard.

  • Keen attention to detail and meticulous fact-checking.

  • Proactive and displays a willingness to take on any task.

  • Positive can-do attitude and good team player.

  • Self-starter, organised and a good problem-solver, able to eliminate obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches.

  • Can demonstrate an understanding of The Sun brand, both print and digital, understanding we are a multimedia brand.

  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends over a seven-day rota pattern.
