Our mission
At Switchee, we believe that everyone deserves to live in a decent home and that the environments we inhabit have a massive influence on our ability to enjoy life and prosper.
One in five households in the UK live in social housing, a sector with the right values at its core but that has historically struggled to deploy innovations in the home. Many residents still can’t afford to heat their homes and live in cold, mouldy properties they can’t be proud of.
We believe that radical innovation in internet-connected technology can ensure that every resident, every day, is living in a home that allows them to succeed. That’s why our products are built not just on great technology, but on an understanding of what people want from the space they live in.
This approach led us to reimagine the most mundane household object, a thermostat, into a product that automatically reduces energy bills, looks great and offers control to those who want it. We are also revolutionising the way social landlords manage their housing stock with an obsessively tailored SaaS property dashboard and handy alerts on things like when the boiler is going to break.
Our goal is to perfect the ultimate connected hub for the social home. It’s going to revolutionise the way residents interact with their homes and landlords manage their properties.
Your responsibilities
We are looking for a Data Analyst to join Switchee’s growing Data team, help to build out our Business Intelligence platform, and contribute directly to the development and improvement of our insights and analytics.
Data is critical to Switchee’s future. The insights we generate help tenants in social housing save money and energy and live more comfortably. They also help social landlords manage their properties more effectively so they can increase their reach, helping more people and targeting their resources most effectively.
We are at the cutting edge of social housing adoption of green technologies, playing a critical role in getting the sector to net zero carbon emissions. A key goal of the Data team will be to use data to clearly tell the stories that enable tenants to understand their energy usage and to deliver the nudges that help them use their heating systems efficiently. This will save them money while also reducing their carbon footprint.
In all of this you’ll be turning data into insights and clear actions that we can deliver to the right people, driving real changes of outcome in the world around us.
You will report into the Data Lead, and will work day-to-day with our Product and Customer Success teams.
The role
Work closely with the Customer Success team to understand client-specific data analysis requests and product ideas.
Perform data exploration and analysis to validate, or otherwise, these requests and ideas.
Development of standardised Business Intelligence reports and Data Analytics solutions that can be rolled out to Switchee’s full client base.
Assist with the development, management and maintenance of Switchee’s enterprise Business Intelligence Platform.
Present technical work to a variety of internal stakeholders, including training where required.
Use your knowledge of Switchee and social housing to provide context and explanation around your analysis.
Assist with Data Science projects, such as the development and validation of new algorithms and insights.
Ensure best practice is followed with all of your work, such as maintaining good standards of documentation.
Proactively identify opportunities to add value to Switchee and our clients through your work with our data and conversations with different stakeholders.
We are a company built on a strong technical foundation. You’ll need to grasp and effectively manage a range of data sets, technology platforms and organisational complexity. Most importantly you will need initiative and drive.
Who You Are
These are ideal but not required as we know some people are less likely to apply for the role unless they are 100% qualified. We promote a diverse, inclusive and empowering culture at Switchee:
Minimum 6 months commercial experience as a Data Analyst or Business Intelligence developer.
You have worked closely with data users on solving concrete business problems.
Experienced working with BI/ Data Visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, Looker).
Experienced working with SQL Databases and proficient at performing standard queries to extract data.
Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on product development.
Proficiency with data mining, mathematics, and statistical analysis.
Any of the following would be a plus:
BSc/BA or equivalent in Statistics, Mathematics, Physics or similar quantitative discipline.
Experience with cloud infrastructure (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP).
Experience with IoT devices and sensor data.
Proficiency in Python and experience in using common data libraries (e.g. Pandas, Numpy).
Familiarity with the Social Housing sector and the challenges faced there.
We look for people who share our values and can add to our culture. Values are shared beliefs that guide our decision-making, and culture is how we function as a group and how we live our values as individuals.
You deeply care about Switchee’s mission; you have a desire to build something revolutionary, that will disrupt an industry, and positively impact ordinary people’s lives.
You care about the environment, are interested in energy efficiency and have thought about the challenges and opportunities posed by an evolving domestic energy market.
You like technology and neat solutions to complex problems.
You thrive on challenge and change; you naturally gravitate to the hardest questions first and love thinking differently to solve them.
You are biased towards action and you’re happiest when you’re “getting stuff done”.
You’re open, positive and straightforward. You’re not afraid to stand up for your convictions, even when it’s hard to do so.
You celebrate your colleagues’ successes and thrive on your failures; you grasp any opportunity for learning and personal growth.
