We are looking for three enthusiastic and dynamic Data Science Specialist (DSS) to join the team. These are key role that will provide technical support (statistical modelling, data storage, programming, etc) to a variety of data-intensive projects across the University via the Ask-JGI service (bristol.ac.uk/golding).
The Jean Golding Institute (bristol.ac.uk/golding) is a central hub for data science and data-intensive research at the University of Bristol. Importantly, this is a very exciting time for the institute as the University of Bristol has just become partner of the UK National Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Institute, the Alan Turning Institute (turing.ac.uk), thus, a number of new networking opportunities will be available.
The JGI is located in Royal Fort House, Royal Fort Gardens within the main University campus. The city of Bristol offers a diverse, multicultural and fun environment with a number of cultural and art events available all year round.
Role 1 will join an existing collaboration between the institute and North Bristol NHS Trust on the Stroke and Clinical Imaging Database for AI. They will lead on a pilot neuroimaging research project within this database which applies machine learning to better detect venous strokes from plain head computed tomography scans. They will work in parallel to make the Stroke and Clinical Imaging Database for AI more accessible to future researchers.
Roles 2 & 3 will join existing collaborations between the institute and our partners.
The Institute also organises data competitions, bespoke training and workshops and the role holder will liaise with the data providers, researchers and JGI staff to develop such activities. Also, the JGI supports a data visualisation working group and the DSS will work closely with academic leads developing ideas for the group.
Prospective candidates should have experience in statistical modelling, working knowledge of a number of statistical software packages (R, Python, C, C++, etc), and data management and storage experience and a PhD or equivalent. This is a full-time post, however, job share arrangements will be considered.
For any informal enquiries please contact Kate Robson Brown, Jean Golding Institute Director jgi-director@bristol.ac.uk
We recently launched our strategy to 2030 tying together our mission, vision and values.
