As London has grown and developed, so has the Met, and is now proudly serving 9 million residents and millions of commuters, visitors, and tourists daily. As a data scientist, you will deploy your skills at the cutting edge of this transformation, supporting all teams across the Met from the Front Line to our business systems.
About the team
DDAT
The Commissioner and Management Board have determined that the Met will be a data driven organisation. This means treating our data in the same way we treat our people, methods and technology, as a strategic asset.
The Data Science and Engineering team sits in DDAT, at the heart of the Met. Our data scientists, working in partnership with data analysts, engineers, and subject matter experts, provide the valuable data-driven insights to drive the strategic and operational decision making across the Met. They deploy advanced statistical tools, such as machine learning and predictive analytics, to improve the Met’s data capabilities, and create predictions of areas of high risk to inform the deployment of resources for maximum impact. We know professional development is essential to maintain our capabilities and so we offer a range of training and development opportunities as well as time for self-directed learning on the job.
Job description
As a data scientist in the Data Office, you will be engaging and providing advice to users and stakeholders across the Met. You will collect requirements for data science tool development, identifying the underlying causes of problems or inefficiencies. You will use your programming skills to build operational solutions using best in class capabilities. You will become a champion in the use of data to support better operational decision making.
