The Accounting and Finance organization is a mission and results driven team that operates with a strong sense of collaboration to support the business, while utilizing our technical expertise, as we manage processes to record, reconcile, and report all financial activity of the enterprise. We bring financial context into the picture when partnering with the lines of business, senior and executive management, and our board of directors.
WestRock is seeking an experienced Director of Accounting to execute WestRock’s shared service strategy for the European region, including designing and implementing global/regional process standards, building/leading the team, including off-shore service providers, to support service delivery and governance. The Director will play a key role in driving a program of continuous improvement for the European Accounting Operations organization. This role will report to the Vice President of Accounting Operations and be a key part of the Finance Transformation team. The ability to create strategic partnerships, collaborate effectively, and influence will be critical. Additional responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Lead and inspire a team, clearly communicate the vision and strategy and develop key competencies and career paths.
Provide project management and leadership in the execution of WestRock’s shared services strategy, partnering cross-functionally and with third-party advisors
Responsible for the functional and operational transition of transactional accounting processes areas into Accounting Operations, including third-party service providers.
Manage initial deployment of Accounting Operations processes as part of the execution of WestRock’s shared services strategy, and prioritize the portfolio of continuous improvement initiatives that impact the overall Accounting Operations processes
Support implementation of project management processes and governance, working with the project team and steering team to ensure project objectives are met, issues are tracked, and status is communicated for the Accounting Operations process transformation
Support the implementation of SAP S/4HANA and other system enhancements and related business process redesign for Accounting Operations processes
How you will impact WestRock:
Lead and execute transformational Accounting Operations change including building a collaborative team to work with our partners to deliver a world class service
Accountable for effective Accounting Operations documentation and maintenance of process level master data
Monitor and report on process performance and compliance and prioritizing required process optimization to meet ever changing business requirements
Ensure that effective internal controls, policies, and practices are in place for Accounting Operations processes and that teams are properly trained
Establish goals and monitor key performance metrics to measure the quality and efficiency of Accounting Operations services performed
Manage the business case process for Accounting Operations change requests
Accountable for final sign-off of Accounting Operations transition, knowledge transfer, training completion, key service level definitions, critical deliverables, and cut-over readiness
What you need to succeed:
Accounting and management/leadership experience in a Shared Services environment
Engaging leadership style, customer-focused, and strong collaborator across the organization
Strong knowledge of US GAAP accounting principles and statutory accounting with a focus on internal control procedures and compliance
Proven experience in delivering, optimizing, and automating Accounting Operations processes
Proven experience in standardizing and documenting Accounting Operations processes and procedures, building out controls, applying best practices and driving continuous improvement
Knowledge of, and experience with, implementing financial technology solutions to add efficiency and accuracy to finance processes, especially Accounting Operations end-to-end solutions
Experience partnering, driving results, and resolving disputes with teams, including third-party service providers
Demonstrated ability and experience with and cultural awareness as well as relationship management at all levels of the organization
Project management experience with ability and willingness to take ownership of projects and assignments with minimal direction from leadership . Has ability to proactively identify and manage potential derailers.
Deep understanding of the value drivers of Accounting and Finance and the external factors impacting the business & industry.
Demonstrated ability to schedule and successfully manage multiple priorities through to successful completion. This includes strong organizational skills and ability to work and thrive in a high-volume, fast-paced, and evolving environment, and operate with autonomy.
Experience working with transformation management and organizational change
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with a strong executive presence
Ability to travel up to 30%, including international travel.
