Our Renewables Engineering Summer Placement provides real hands-on experience through a 12 week placement. Throughout the placement, you will have the support of a business mentor and manager, who will provide guidance and support to enable you to reach your full potential. You will be part of a team delivering work that develops our Renewables projects in onshore, offshore and hydro projects as well as ensuring the engineering integrity of our existing assets, all while developing your own technical skills and professional knowledge and networks.
What do I need?
We have opportunities for those studying degrees inclusive of; Mechanical, Civil/ Structural/Geotechnical, Electrical/Electronics and Materials Engineering. Our opportunities are open to students who are in their 2nd year of their degree onwards or those who have already graduated.
We'd love you to have some practical work or project experience that reflects your passion for the energy sector, as well as a knowledge of the energy industry and demonstrable experience of working in a team. You'll also be comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges and should have a genuine interest in SSE and the prospect of a long-term future with us.

With a portfolio of around 4GW of onshore wind, offshore wind and hydro, our strategy is to drive the transition to a net zero world through the world class development, construction and operation of renewable energy assets.
We’re aiming to treble our renewable energy output from 2019 levels to 30TWh by 2030, making a significant contribution to decarbonising the power sector and achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
We own nearly 2GW of operational onshore wind capacity with over 1GW under development. Our 1,459MW hydro portfolio includes 300MW of pumped storage and 750MW of flexible hydro. Our operational offshore wind portfolio consists of 579MW across three offshore sites in UK waters, two of which we operate on behalf of our joint venture partners.
