We currently have an exciting opportunity for a positive individual to join our team as a Finance Assistant. You will join us working 17.5 hours per week, on an 18 Month Fixed term contract basis. In return you will receive a competitive salary of up to £12,882.81 per annum plus excellent benefits.

This role will be based from home with the requirement to travel in to the office approximately once a week, initially this will be daily until training is complete. The office is based at Cats Protection's National Cat Centre, Chelwood Gate, on the edge of Ashdown Forest. This is a remote location and public transport is limited, please bear this in mind when applying.

There is the opportunity for the right candidate, if interested, to be offered a full-time role combining this Finance Assistant role alongside the Neutering Finance Supervisor role.

Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity with a nationwide network of adoption and homing centres, volunteer-run branches and charity shops. During 2021 we helped 137,000 cats and kittens. That's the equivalent of around 375 cats a day!

The Finance Directorate has a highly skilled team of employees who cover financial accounting and transaction processing, management accounting and reporting and payroll. The Charity has an annual revenue budget of £75m and operates a trading subsidiary with income in excess of £2.0m per annum. The team processes around 5,000 supplier payments and 150,000 neutering vouchers per year. In addition, they run a payroll for over 1,000 staff and support over 220 branches and their volunteer treasurers, as well as providing financial advice and support to the 36 centres and a chain of over 100 shops.

Responsibilities of our Finance Assistant:

To provide processing and administrative support for the financial accounting activities of the charity. To provide a high-quality service and be responsible for ledgers they control. The role will focus on a core area, either purchase ledger, banking or CPL Enterprises, but will be able to interchange with tasks in other areas.

What we’re looking for in our Finance Assistant:

• A Level or equivalent in any subject

• Experience of working within an office environment

• Experience working within a finance team, ideally either accounts receivable or accounts payable departments

• Ability to process data accurately and quickly

• Experience of using Microsoft Excel to an intermediate level

• Experience of using accounting software or a similar type of database

• A willingness to provide a quality service to customers with experience of working in a customer orientated role
