Job summary

The UKHSA creative content team is looking for a permanent graphic designer.

We’re looking for someone experienced in all forms of digital design, who can conceptualise content quickly. You’ll create assets for use across our external channels.

Job description

You should have strong attention to detail and be able to tailor design to modern accessibility requirements whilst still producing vibrant, creative results. We will work with you to learn and understand our brand guidelines and you’ll have support from across the content team and wider communications directorate.

The team is made up of brief managers, writers, videographers, designers and a social media expert. You’ll work closely with the lead graphic designer to complete projects, share ideas and continually improve our outputs.

Person specification

Main tasks

  • Produce digital assets for use across our external social media channels including Twitter, Meta (Facebook), Instagram and LinkedIn.
  • Work with briefs from across the communications directorate, giving feedback to the content team on design concepts, timelines and accessibility
  • Offer design advice where needed to colleagues from across the organisation on digital design projects
  • Work with the entire content team on large projects, using your design expertise to offer up ideas and solutions on how we can best communicate our key messages

Resource management

  • to ensure colleagues within the Communications directorate and staff across the wider agency have a prompt and professional digital design resource

  • the above is only an outline of the tasks, responsibilities and outcomes required of the role. You will carry out any other duties as may reasonably be required by the directorate

Professional development

  • you should pursue a programme of continuous professional development in accordance with any relevant professional registration or statutory requirements, while maintaining appropriate awareness of service provider requirements

Key requirements

  • A strong portfolio and proven track record of digital graphic design work
  • Experience and understanding of layout based graphic design work and non-illustrative design
  • Strong understanding of digital design software (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
  • Ability to take constructive criticism when necessary and modify projects at short notice to meet sudden changes
  • Experience producing and monitoring design projects through the entire stages of production, from concept through to finished product

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

The successful candidate will have:

Knowledge and experience

  • Experience as defined by type/level (not length)
  • At least two years in a design role working on primarily digital projects
  • Experience of designing assets for social media channels
  • Able to produce accessible content that will work on both desktop and phone

Skills and capabilities

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (illustrator, PhotoShop, InDesign)
  • Experience of working from written briefs and seeing a design process through to completion

  • An understanding of and commitment to equality of opportunity and good working relationships, both in terms of day-to-day working practices, but also in relation to management systems

Desirable criteria

  • Degree in graphic design or other relevant creative subject
  • Professional accredited qualification
  • Experience of working with other creatives such as videographers and animators

Selection process details

As part of the application process, you will be asked to provide a Personal Statement / Statement of Suitability in no more than 1000 words. This should outline how you consider your skills, experience, and achievements, provide evidence of your suitability for the role, with particular reference to the person specification outlined above.

You will also be asked to provide information within the ‘Employer/ Activity history’ section of the application form. This is equivalent to the information you would provide on a CV, setting out your career history this will be used in sifting process and will be scored.


Stage 1 – Application & sift:

You will be required to complete an application form. This will be assessed in line with the advertised criteria.

If you are successful at this stage, you will progress to a video interview.
