Salary: UH6 £29,619 per annum - £32,348 per annum, with potential to progress to £35,333 per annum by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience.

We’re looking for an experienced Graphic Designer to join our dynamic Digital and Creative Experience team, working across a range of channels to deliver sector-leading creative that cuts through the noise in a highly competitive sector.
Main duties and responsibilities
You will be responsible for creating high-quality, engaging design in line with the University’s modern and energising visual identity. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary creative team, and with a strong creative mind and an eye for impactful design, you’ll develop concepts through to production-ready artwork for a wide variety of audiences and outputs. Supported by the wider team and a roster of external creatives, you’ll continue to evolve the University’s master and campaign identities to inspire a new generation of students, researchers and businesses.
You will maintain and enforce consistency and quality in the University’s visual identity as it applies to printed literature, digital advertising, website and digital channels, social media, merchandise, signage and wayfinding, display graphics and other forms of visual communication, working independently to identify innovations and make recommendations to improve the perception and reputation of the University as a disruptor in the higher education space.
You will oversee the work of external creative suppliers providing guidance and feedback throughout projects whilst supporting the Lead Graphic Designer in the continual review and evolution of the University’s visual identity, informed by sector trends, customer insight and changing audience behaviour.
You will maintain key tools such as the Brand Toolkit, Asset Library and internal communications channels to ensure guidance and resources are up-to-date, manage the collation and archiving of all design work, support the management of the creative procurement process, provide appropriate software skills training to colleagues as appropriate and liaise with colleagues in Document Services, Library and Computing Services and Estates.
Skills and experience required
Successful candidates will have a degree-level qualification in graphic design, visual communication or equivalent industry experience, and have specialist knowledge of industry-standard software including Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects.
With experience designing for both print and digital outputs, you’ll have an established portfolio of high quality work that demonstrates innovative thinking, an understanding of current trends and the ability to inspire a range of different audiences through engaging and accessible design. You’ll have the ability to produce high-impact, targeted designs aligned to business needs, and will be able to measure, refine and report on the success of design projects.
You will require experience with project management and an excellent standard of design skills demonstrating strong creative flair. Design for printed publications and marketing collateral will be essential, along with proven experience in design for websites and other digital platforms.
You will be able to work well under pressure and able to successfully deliver projects on time and within budget, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, excellent proofreading skills, time management, organizational skills and attention to detail will be key in all work. You may also be required to work unsociable hours on occasion.
Qualifications required
Degree in Graphic Design / Visual Communication (or a related field of study), a qualification to an equivalent standard or proven professional work experience.
