The role

We're currently recruiting for a People Consultant to join our team to provide technically competent advice and consultancy in the delivery of People Function services across the organisation. This role provides hands on delivery of technical HR support, offering consultancy and guidance to all colleagues in our business. As part of the People Consultancy team, you'll play your part in delivering an effective and professional generalist HR service in line with our organisational policies, legislation and best practice. You'll be an expert in employment law enabling you to deal with complex ER issues. You'll provide thorough and timely case management on all aspects of our colleague's journey. From probation, performance, absence and conduct through to exits, you'll support our people managers each step of the way including attendance at formal meetings, through to successful case resolution.

You'll have proven experience of Organisational Design including redundancy and TUPE enabling you to support stakeholders with all related activities through to project completion.

In everything you deliver you'll be mindful of timescales, governance and controls and make sure risks are managed appropriately, balancing legal compliance with a commercial appetite. You'll continually looking for opportunities to enhance the support we give, with customer centricity at the forefront.

What you'll do


  • Provide technical advice and consultancy to ensure managers have the tools and information required to manage their people effectively at all stages of the employee lifecycle
  • Coach our People Managers, often dealing with ambiguity in order to identify the key risks and issues of a situation and provide risk-based options that have a commercial focus.
  • Support our People Managers to proactively manage colleagues' wellbeing, both whilst at work or during short term or longer term absence.
  • Use your sound knowledge of what is available through our Group Income Protection scheme, to support colleagues as early as possible with the view of helping them return.
  • Coach stakeholders on organisational design including OD business cases, advising on appropriate selection criteria, supporting redundancy and TUPE consultation process through to the project completion.
  • Confidently support the business on 'without prejudice' conversations through to resolution through settlement agreements.
  • Proactively spot trends in the team's activity and provide insights to appropriate stakeholders and customers to inform people plans and manager education.
  • Confidently deliver manager education sessions on our processes and ways of working to support them in the ongoing effective management of their teams.
  • Provide guidance and advice on matters of employment policy whilst performing a governance role across policies that sit within other HR Centres of Excellence
  • Lead and deliver assigned projects, typically in relation to wider Corporate and HR initiatives.
What are we looking for?


  • Proven experience in case management of all Employee Relations (ER) activities, particularly complex and potential high risk cases.
  • Experience of putting employment law knowledge into practice in a commercial environment
  • CIPD or equivalent Employment law qualification
  • Regulatory experience is desirable
