About the job

Job summary

A great opportunity for an Investigations Officer has now arisen to join us to make enquiries into breaches of the Private Security Industry Act, help protect the public and raise business standards. We have 4 vacancies in the North of England, looking for candidates who reside in Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Lancashire (and the surrounding areas including Cumbria and Cheshire).

We are actively seeking individuals from diverse backgrounds. Joining us means joining a dynamic, high-profile sector and being at the cutting edge of regulation, where the work you do has a real impact on the public’s safety. We are an organisation that respects work-life balance and is completely dedicated to helping you achieve your full potential. Whether that’s through flexible working, really understanding how you work best or exposing you to real opportunities to challenge yourself, if you’re passionate about making your mark on the industry and on society, then we will help you do that.

Job description

The Role

As Investigations Officer, you will operate as a member of the Compliance and Inspections team liaising and negotiating with stakeholders from across the private security industry to ensure effective regulation and compliance with the Private Security Industry Act 2001.

In addition, you will be involved in activities to support Home Office initiatives to tackle Serious and Organised Crime, Counter Terrorism, Violence Reduction and tackling Violence Towards Women and Girls.

Person specification

We regulate a highly diverse industry and are looking to reflect this representation in the people we recruit. As an SIA Investigator you will be working in an exciting role where no one day is the same as the next. You could be meeting police and intelligence partners one day, the security industry the next and the following day you may be interviewing someone who might be a suspect in an investigation. As a result, you should be a great communicator, a quick learner, adaptable and someone who loves dealing with varied issues every day.

We will give you lots of support and training but your success as an Investigator at the SIA will very much depend on your enthusiasm and personality. To be successful you will be authentic, have a positive attitude and be a person who sees setbacks as an opportunity to learn and improve.

Much of your work as an Investigator will involve working alone and you will be home based. As a result, you should be resilient, disciplined and responsible when working independently. However, you will also be called upon to work as part of a wider, national team and will be expected to offer your help to peers, even if the scope of work is outside your comfort zone. So, you will also need to be a team player, inclusive and good at building relationships.

With experience and training, you will have the independence to carry out your own enquiries, meet the security industry, make productive partnerships and conduct joint operations with police and other partners. You should therefore be a natural problem solver and an influencer who is able look ahead, identify issues and then implement their best solutions.

Benefits

  • Learning and development tailored to your role
  • An environment with flexible working options
  • A culture encouraging inclusion and diversity
  • A Civil Service pension with an average employer contribution of 27%
