We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Accountant to join the Finance Team. This involves developing and maintaining a financial system for projects, providing accurate and timely financial data, and supporting project managers in delivering their financial plans. The role requires maintenance of the quotation model and support of new business developments whilst adhering to the overall financial goals, procedures, and reporting deadlines. The main responsibilities of this role include:

  • Overall accountability for ERP project reporting across the business, to meet the need of both project managers and the broader finance team
  • Develop and maintain the ERP project financial reporting system, including processes, procedures and templates to meet business objectives
  • Set up project WBS, task structure, budgets and ERP reporting for new projects and existing project change orders
  • Load approved budgets and maintain budget history as required
  • Deliver timely and accurate projects data for all users
  • Review & analyse actual costs and variances from budget, working with Project Managers to agree upon corrective actions as required
  • Provide financial analysis to accompany standard project reporting and act proactively on observations & implications
  • Support governance reviews and own the Finance quadrant of summary reports
  • Consult with Commercial and estimators for quotation of new projects, challenging methodology and costs
  • Work with project managers and the Head of Projects to share ideas and improve financial reporting; recommending, supporting and implementing continuous improvement activities to optimise results and improve quality of delivery
  • Support Finance planning and forecasting by providing time-phased project budgets
  • Recommend project gross margin booking rate to Financial Controller for use in monthly revenue recognition
  • Working with the Financial Controller, establish accounting practice for new project types and insure compliance with accounting policy for project accounting
  • Interact with Commercial and the Finance Manager to support invoicing and customer payment pursuant to project contract terms
  • Support business operations by providing time phased labour budgets at the level required for labour forecasting
  • Mentor team members from cross functional departments

In terms of experience, we need you to have:

  • Proven experience as a project financial analyst or cost controller within an engineering and manufacturing environment
  • General experience in accounting and financial reporting
  • Syteline ERP experience is a plus
  • Demonstrable autonomy to lead and make decisions
  • Financially and commercially astute
  • Able to drive change and think on feet
  • Accounting degree preferred but not essential
  • MBA or qualifications in recognised project management methodologies would be a plus
  • Must have project experience
