You will lead a team of project managers and support officers with various levels of experience within our Programme & Contract Management function; line managing typically 8-12 people; either Environment Agency employees or staff from delivery partner organisations.

You will manage day-to-day running of the team including performance management, recruitment and succession planning to ensure a high performing team. You’ll support staff in their project delivery roles through coaching and assign project work to ensure good work-life balance and personal development.

You’ll build and enhance a great working environment, being a key figure within our local leadership group. You'll demonstrate excellent behaviours, collaborative working and build a strong network of relationships inside and outside the organisation.

You’ll face a portfolio, providing key links through project discussions and PCM resources assigned to their programme. You’ll be confident in escalating complex technical issues raised by your team. A strong problem solver, you’ll work closely with colleagues across the Integrated Delivery Team adapting programme delivery when key issues escalate.
The team
Programme and Contract Management (PCM) is responsible for delivering the majority of our high profile and large-scale projects in a continually improving sustainable way, mainly within our flood risk asset management programme; from multi-million pound programmes to ground-breaking, award-winning projects. Local PCM teams are large but provide a supportive team-working environment where each team member’s contribution is valued. Our professional teams manage projects throughout their lifecycle to deliver environmental improvements.
Experience/skills required
Qualified to degree level/equivalent in engineering, environmental or geography discipline with chartered membership of relevant professional body eg ICE, CIWEM or APMP, not essential if you have experience and proven record of great leadership. Understanding Asset Management and Programme Management desirable but not essential.

Inspiring, innovative, passionate team leader, to build great working environments, collaborative and high performing teams in different locations. Skilled in developing & coaching technical staff, managing performance, building inclusive relationships, resource management, embedding excellence, knowledge sharing with excellent communication and influencing skills without necessarily having technical knowledge.

Experience working with people at all levels, with different perspectives and drivers; ideally delivery partners or external organisations, building on shared outcomes
