Purpose:

Building Adhesives specialises in the development, manufacture and distribution of ceramic tile adhesives, grouts, silicone sealants and ancillary products for a wide range of applications.

Founded in 1962 as a development centre for the British ceramic tile industry, Building Adhesives is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ardex GmbH, Germany. Its main activities are based in Stoke-on-Trent in the UK. The UK activities comprise R&D facilities, administrative centre and UK manufacturing activities.

Products are sold under the BAL and Dunlop brands. BAL is the market leader in the UK professional tiling market and renowned for its stringent product quality and excellent technical and training services, whilst Dunlop offers a comprehensive range of tiling products for a wide spectrum of building applications which are distributed through the merchant sector.

Requirements:

We are looking for an experienced formulation Chemist to join our Research and Development team to support our range of dispersion adhesives and cement-based adhesives, grouts and levelling compounds.

Qualifications/education required:

  • A degree in Chemistry (or other science subject) or membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Experience required:

  • The successful candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience of formulating products for the construction sector.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include:

· To develop new products to defined performance, cost, Health and Safety and timescale targets.

· To propose innovative projects to ensure business growth.

· To supervise the introduction of new products into the manufacturing process in such a manner as to ensure their consistent and effective production.

· To ensure, in conjunction with Quality Control, that production methods and QC test schedules for new products are correctly defined and published.

· To evaluate potential alternative raw materials to ensure continuity of manufacturing and achieve cost savings.

· To liaise with customers and Sales/Technical Advisors to prepare specifications for a

wide range of products.

· To provide analytical support to identify causes of customer complaints and identify

remedial actions that may be required.

· To analyse competitors’ products to determine composition.

· To provide technical support to QC and Production

· To conduct benchmark testing of competitors’ products and test Building & Construction products according to defined European standards.

· To input data for safety software to produce finished goods’ MSDS.

· To develop IT skills to ensure that all work is documented and reported.

· To work in accordance with the Company’s documented procedures, including BS EN ISO 9001, in order that customers, both internal and external, can rely on the integrity of the testing services and products supplied.

· To carry out ‘ad-hoc’ or special projects, as requested by the UK Technical Director/ Head of R+D/R+D Section Leader to ensure effective operation of the Department.
