We are looking to recruit a full-time Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Medicine & Surgery OT team based at QMC either permanently or on a 2 year, fixed-term contract or secondment. The role is predominantly clinical but also involves some service development.

The successful candidate will:

• Have excellent clinical skills across a wide range of areas that enable them to assess, treat and deliver rehabilitation to patients with a variety of different clinical presentations,
• Have a proven track-record of managing complex discharges whilst taking steps to mitigate and manage risk.
• Be committed to delivering person-centred care whilst simultaneously optimising patient flow in the acute setting.
• Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with other team members to deliver high quality patient care and outcomes.
• Be able to identify and address the development needs of less experienced and more junior colleagues.
• Have experience of successful collaboration with other services and agencies across the Integrated Care System.
• Demonstrate emotional intelligence and compassion in relation to patients, carers and colleagues.

Main duties of the job

• Provide high quality assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to patients with a variety of different presentations.
• Manage complex discharges and support other team members to do the same.
• Optimise patient flow.
• Provide effective supervision to Band 5 OTs and support staff.
• Deputise for Band 7 OTs as appropriate.
• Work flexibly - including working rostered weekends.
• Work alongside other members of the team to develop the service in line with evidence based practice.
• Support student placements within the team.
• Support the learning and development of other team members by providing formal and informal training and mentoring.
• Work effectively as part of multi-disciplinary teams across all relevant wards and areas.
• Model professional behaviours and embody NUH Trust values.

Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists, and our other staff encompass professionals such as nurses, psychologists, administrative and clerical and support workers.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful applicant will demonstrate advanced level occupational therapy skills in assessment and diverse interventions including rehabilitation, seating, positioning, splinting and discharge planning. An in-depth understating of stoke and or neurology assessments and interventions is essential for this role and experience of critical care is desirable.

A willingness to learn and develop further, both clinically and professionally and to lead on this within the team is essential. The successful applicant must be open minded to new ways of working and lead on this. The ideal individual for this role needs to be flexible, dynamic and forward thinking. Strong leadership qualities are essential in this post.

You will be working as part of large inter and multi-professional teams who will give support and training for you to develop in this role to reach your full potential. Also, to advocate strongly for the OT role in the MDT setting. You will demonstrate an ability to work autonomously to an advanced level and provide support to other members of the team, including peers, Band 5 OT’s, including preceptees, support workers and students. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work flexibly to support the needs of the service.
