Job Purpose
The Student Experience and Development team empower students to make the most of their time at the business school, preparing them for their future. The team contributes to areas that enhance the student journey including student engagement, wellbeing, and professional development.
The student development coach will be part of a team that leads in the development of scalable embedded, co-curricular and extra-curricular professional and career design interventions. The post holder will support one of our three subject areas – economics, accounting and finance or management. They will create content to prepare our students for success during their studies and after graduation in a changing world of work.
Main duties and responsibilities
1. Manage relationships within subject area, working in partnership and advising academic colleagues and programme leaders on development needs of students. Creating, developing, supporting and delivering bespoke programme of timetabled and co-curricular professional development activities.
2. Lead, develop and evaluate innovative, scalable, measurable solutions to support student employability. Proactively monitor the effectiveness of interventions. With a particular emphasis on supporting Postgraduate and honours students.
3. Create and develop digital content and learning resources to support student’s personal development plans. Including video resources, e-learning courses, and digital sector guides.
4. Develop and deliver workshops and courses as part of the school’s extra-curricular Adam Smith Skills Award.
5. Deliver application clinics, advising students on CVs, applications, and preparation for upcoming interviews.
6. Support work related learning within the curriculum including designing and organising visits, hosting student conferences, and chairing employer panels with external employers and alumni.
7. Participate in projects and working groups within the school and contribute to wider college and University working groups.
8. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of skills needs and trends in Graduate Labour Market and recruitment practices to enhance the quality of the service provision.
9. Work collaboratively with colleagues across the University in particular, the college’s employability team and the central careers service to share resources and good practice.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 SCQF Level 9, Degree, VQ level 4 or equivalent in a relevant subject or relevant professional formal training (e.g., CIPD, PG Diploma in Careers Guidance, Coaching etc)
A2 Knowledge and understanding of graduate labour markets, recruitment trends and professional development needs of students.
Desirable:
B1 Knowledge and expertise in psychometric/development tools such as Belbin, Insights, MBTI etc.
Skills
Essential:
C1 Training delivery, design, facilitation, and presentation skills.
C2 Effective at building strong working partnerships and developing synergies.
C3 Proven ability to use initiative and work independently.
C4 Ability to plan and organise strategically, prioritising appropriately between operational requirements and projects.
C5 Excellent digital skills and comfortable in featuring in video content
Experience
Essential:
E1 Demonstrated experience in a learning and development, graduate recruitment, or careers/employability role
E2 Developing and delivering learning/education to large groups
Desirable
F1 Relevant industry experience e.g., working in a sector that recruits business graduates or previous experience working with business school students
F2 Developing e-learning /use of learning management systems such as moodle
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 7, £37,474 - £42,155 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open ended.
