Job Description :

The SDA have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Engineer or Scientist to join our Systems Assessment team at one of our secure facilities, within 25 miles of MOD Abbey Wood, Filton, Bristol. In joining SDA, you will integrate with a team of highly skilled professionals, supporting some of largest and most complex engineering programmes in defence. You will be providing technical and specialist support to the Royal Navy and a significant contribution to project/programme success.

As a specialist member of SDA, you will be responsible for delivering and co-ordinating all System Assessment activities for the project. This will involve utilising critical thinking and analysis skills in a complex environment to provide statistical assessments of system performance and effectiveness. Due to the nature of this work, working with project teams and stakeholders is critical to success. Therefore, you will be required to interface regularly with operational users and key scientific research agencies such as Dstl and AWE. The successful candidate will report to the team’s Technical Authority and will also have direct line management responsibility for three L2 Engineers and Scientists. Joining our forward thinking and progressive team, will give you a fantastic chance to form an integral part of our Engineering function.

At SDA we offer outstanding training and development opportunities, defined progression routes, and a host of other benefits including our 'Smarter Working’ policy. Training is readily available, invested in and essential to stay abreast with new technologies and you will be working in an environment that encourages this.

Please be advised that due to the nature of security, these roles are reserved for sole UK Nationals only. The successful candidate will be required to attain DV (Developed Vetting) clearance prior to joining. We operate a hybrid working environment, although given the requirements of the role the expectation is that you will attend the site a minimum four days per week.

This post is on the MOD Civilian Nuclear Post Control List (PCL) and may attract the Nuclear Recruitment and Retention Allowance (RRA). This is a discretionary allowance. The post being listed on the PCL does not mean that the post holder will have an automatic entitlement to receive the RRA. The NSQEP RRA is not a contractual allowance and can be amended or withdrawn without notice in line with MOD Main and Submarine Delivery Agency policy.

This post may be eligible for the NSQEP Recruitment Retention Allowance of up to £12,000 per annum. This allowance is discretionary and will be dependent on a candidate's ability to successfully demonstrate the necessary competency, qualifications, and experience to an independent panel of Subject Matter Experts.

About the role

You will use your willingness to learn to become an authority on System Assessment activities and act as an intelligent customer for the project. The responsibilities of this post will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Delivery of key operational outputs on time and to a high standard of quality
