UK Biobank are seeking an enthusiastic, a highly skilled and motived Business Analyst to join the Project Management Office, working alongside BAs and PMO colleagues to help define, deliver and document UK Biobanks’ enhancement projects alongside business change and continuous improvement. The role will suit a Business Analyst who enjoys working on a diverse range of business, technology and data transformation processes and projects.
Key Responsibilities
You will work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the capture of business, process and system requirements to support the operation and future development of a petabyte-scale biomedical database and health research resource.
You will be expected to work on varied types/sizes of projects, which can be in the form of:
Laboratory sample projects – from the selection, processing and shipment of samples from UKB labs for research analysis, through to analysis and definition of return of research / quality control data to be returned for inclusion in UKB database;
Data and Technology transformation projects - to maintain/update the systems and processes which underpin this world leading resource;
Participant-centric enhancement projects – involving the collection of additional health related data and/or samples from our participants;
Continuous improvement or business change.
As part of the PMO, you will help to define the department and play an active role in its evolution. You will be domain expert in certain functional areas of the business and pro-actively plan and execute knowledge transfer activities to team members.
About you
Essential
Exceptional analytical, conceptual thinking and problem solving abilities.
The ability to clarify, plan, prioritise in order to work proactively in order to ensure objectives are met in a timely manner. Ability to analyse complex problems and propose solutions while satisfying any constraints imposed by the business i.e. resource or time while recognising when escalation is required to a more senior level.
Ability to consider risks, wider impact of decisions such as the risks and benefits, assessing the possible outcomes or impact and their likelihood and choose an appropriate method to communicate them clearly.
Strong facilitation and influencing skills, working closely with stakeholders to determine solutions, have the confidence to challenge assumptions while identifying underlying requirements.
Ability to challenge decisions and proposals appropriately to ensure processes and outcomes are robust.
Demonstrable experience working in a broad range of business projects and delivering successfully
Demonstrable experience of using business analysis techniques, these may include process mapping, UML, MOSCOW, writing user stories and acceptance criteria
Demonstrated experience of best practices for organizing, managing and reporting on data including practical experience working with and using Business Intelligence and Reporting.
Experience compiling and creating detailed reports and giving presentations to users and executive management.
Experience working on complex data requirements and business critical systems including the full software development lifecycle.
Desirable
Educated to a degree level qualification (or equivalent)
Knowledge/experience of standardised quality control pipelines for ensuring data quality, provenance and integrity.
Ability to use coaching & mentoring skills and skills of persuasion & negotiation to lead teams and deliver business change.
