Job Description :

An exciting opportunity to join the children’s keyworking team is now open to applications. The Keyworker Role is a part of the NHS Improvement Long Term Plan to improve outcomes for children and young people with Autism and / or Learning Disabilities, who are either in a mental health inpatient setting or who are at risk of being admitted. More information on this initiative can be found athttps://www.england.nhs.uk/learning-disabilities/care/children-young-people/keyworkers/

The role is unique in its development of a multi-agency commitment around the child to improve health, social and educational outcomes for the child and young person. The keyworker role will work on behalf of the local multiagency system, across Education, Health and Social Care, as part of One Vision.

The Post holder will be expected to have excellent communication skills to enable them to live the journey with the young person. They will ensure that the child’s needs are modelled across settings and that barriers to delivery are flagged with relevant agencies. The Keyworkers will be assigned to a small number of young people and work intensively with them and their families. As Cornwall is a rural county there is an expectation for key workers to have a driving license and access to a car. The team is countywide but this position is based in the west of Cornwall.

Successful candidates will be innovative and dynamic thinkers, who place the child and young person at the heart of decision making and ensure their voice is heard. The keyworker role requires a high level of knowledge and skill in relation to understanding the complex needs of children and young people with Autism, learning disability or both, mental health and human rights.

Training for this role will build on the post holders understanding of autism, learning disabilities and how these relate to trauma and the risk of inpatient admissions. Continuing professional development opportunities are available and support will be given to deliver the role. Professional registration is not required for the role but this could also be suitable for newly qualified members of staff such as nursing or AHPs.
