The role
The team
How can we help ensure people have the retirement they expect? Should employers pay more for their workers’ pensions, even if it means cutting into their profits? What role should pension schemes play in tackling climate change? What does it mean to run a pension scheme well? If these sorts of questions interest you, then an internship with the Policy Team might be for you.

Together with partners across government and the pensions industry we are working collaboratively to:

• Understand the issues and the evidence base. What do pension schemes need to do better?
• Identify realistic options – what can we do to tackle the problems?
• Influence government and the pensions industry to make changes to the law and do things differently

What you’ll do
As a Policy Intern, you'll work closely with our experts to support them in delivering on our current policy priorities by:

• Contributing to the development of research reports and summaries, guidance, and policy evaluations
• Providing input into the policy development life cycle, helping to build an evidence base and develop policy options, writing papers or presentations
• Shaping and influencing pensions policy through developing and maintaining relationships with customers inside and outside TPR, including the Department for Work and Pensions
• Support the design and delivery of workshops, consultation events and meetings with internal experts and external collaborators
• Maintain robust team records and processes to ensure that policy papers and briefings are produced in a timely fashion in line with targets
• Contribute towards the delivery of policy projects and provide logistical and administrative support for colleagues in the Regulatory Policy, Analysis and Advice Directorate.

This placement would suit someone who may be studying economics, government, politics or a similar social studies/humanities course. Or, has a curiosity about building knowledge of policy development and implementation, including policy development cycle, principles of good policy making, legislative development/processes and open policy making techniques.

What you’ll bring

• Ability to find, assimilate and present sophisticated information
• Ability to provide support and turn ideas into real-life solutions
• A high understanding of written English and excellent communication skills
• Understanding of Data Protection Act/Freedom of Information principles
• A student in penultimate year of study, or undertaking a degree requiring a year-long placement
