Job Description :

About Us

QuantSpark is a data science and analytics consultancy based in London. Our mission is to create strategic value for our clients. We deeply care about the commercial impact of our work and this entrepreneurial approach informs everything we do.

We go beyond the remit of traditional strategy consultancies by blending advanced data analytics and software engineering capabilities to build analytical tools that deliver long-lasting value - the tools and solutions we create become embedded in our clients' daily operations. Our ever-growing client base consists of FTSE 100 retailers, prestigious Private Equity houses, governments, and global tech companies.

Yes, the work is hugely impactful and engaging, but it's our talented team that is our greatest asset; we take pride in providing a collaborative environment where everyone is encouraged and supported to grow their career.

You'll be joining at a hugely exciting time, with plenty of opportunities to be involved in shaping your role and the direction of our fast-scaling organisation.

The Role

This role is perfect for an experienced data engineer or someone with previous experience as a Model/Data/Analytics Engineer within a services or commercial environment.

The Analytics Engineering Team are responsible for building complex models that solve real business problems. Alongside this, we focus on data engineering, constructing well-tested datasets, and setting up the monitoring, testing and automation of data pipelines so that your colleagues in the Analytics team can use the data to answer the client’s key questions.

Before embarking on analytics projects or developing products for our clients, it is vital that we develop best-in-class datasets and architecture to support the foundational layer of descriptive analytics. You’ll be designing and managing data warehouses using Dbt or airflow, thereby enabling the modelling and working closely with the Development team on more software engineering tasks, supporting with API design, data architecture and pipeline design. These lay the foundation for our own range of SaaS products and bespoke tool development projects.

However, your role isn’t all “behind the scenes” - since we’re a consultancy, you’ll be working closely with both technical and non-technical stakeholders on the client’s side; identifying solutions for their key challenges, discussing recommendations, and helping them understand the value of the service you’re providing. Internally, you’re helping the team write better code and to adopt software engineering best practices, and you’re critical to enabling our Data Analysts and Developers to be more effective.

Accountabilities

  • Aiding the development and analytics teams with the creation of tools and solutions
  • Data ingestion into the warehouse from a variety of sources (SQL, NoSQL, Cloud services via APIs) and preparing the data for modelling.
  • Modelling of raw data into datasets that enable the Analytics team to be more effective in developing descriptive and predictive analytics solutions
  • Analyze existing data architectures and provide advice on how to develop effective data connectors, ETL/ELT processes and data warehouses / datacubes
  • Design and development of Analytics and BI capabilities, dashboarding, reporting and visualizations
  • Ensure data quality, data security, data governance and wider Analytics Engineering standards remain high
  • Partnering with technical and non-technical client stakeholders to understand their needs and advise on the appropriate solutions and choices
  • Engage collaboratively with client technical teams to deploy updated data architectures

Requirements

About You

Ideally, you have knowledge of either data or model engineering, or both! Either way, you’re able to speak the language of both business and technical teams and have experience of translating requirements for data insights and analysis into the required models such as Python (using packages such as NumPy and Pandas).

You will use your creativity to build innovative solutions that solve your client’s biggest commercial challenges and are able to really identify and communicate the commercial value of your work. Some prior experience in a data analytics engineering or model/data engineering role, ideally working alongside Analytics teams

Depending on your technical experience, your role may lean more towards model engineering or data engineering responsibilities, however, you will have an opportunity to broaden your exposure to projects that require both skillsets.

What you’ll need:

  • Advanced coding skills in Python with experience in Pandas/NumPy (including working knowledge and experience with data cleansing and ingestion at scale)
  • Writing production-level code whilst collaborating on codebases with other developers (e.g., version control, Agile)
  • High level of business acumen and an ability to deliver commercial value for clients
  • Experience with relational database design for data warehousing and advanced ability in SQL (including Data Schema designs that are normalized, extendable and performant to query)
  • Skilled in Data Warehousing and Data Modelling (Preferably using Cloud platforms such as Redshift, Big Query, or Snowflake)
  • Experience building dashboards in Tableau or PowerBI

Advantageous – technical

  • Familiarity with cloud architecture is a plus (ideally AWS or alternatively Azure/GCP)
  • Experience creating designing and building cloud data architecture required to support analytics
  • Understanding of non-relational database design (e.g. MongoDB)
  • Ability to apply software engineering best practices like source control and CI/CD
  • Experience in designing and developing of ETL & ELT pipelines using AirFlow and Dbt
  • Some experience working with web-applications e.g. Flask, Django, ORM models, etc

Advantageous – consultancy

As well as technical skills, you’ll also need to be a great consultant and a driver of our fantastic culture, so we also look for you to have:

  • Excellent communication skills – translating technical lingo into insights and stories for non-technical stakeholders is a must!
  • An ability to work autonomously and be self-motivated
  • A team-oriented and collaborative approach
  • An interest in joining a small but growing team and drive to help both themselves and the business develop

QuantSpark hire based on potential, not on a competency checklist or a list of buzzwords. If you meet most of the requirements above, and can demonstrate your drive and capability to learn on the job, we would welcome your application.

Benefits

Yes, the work is hugely impactful and engaging, but it’s our talented team which is our greatest asset; we take pride in providing a collaborative environment where everyone is encouraged and supported to grow their career with a personal training budget of £6,000 per year.
